WoW on your resume

Here's an -amusing- article from the April issue of Wired titled, "You Play World of Warcraft? You're Hired!" Written by John Seely Brown and Douglas Thomas, the piece discusses the transferable skills such as leadership that one can enhance while practicing those activities in WoW. The particular case they cite is a senior director at Yahoo! who is also a top guild leader in the online game.

Gamers voting network - follow up story

Here's a follow-up story on the BBC to the previous post about a "gamer bloc"

"The Entertainment Software Association (ESA), which represents game producers, wants US gamers to register to vote and to lobby against new restrictions. Democrat Senators Hillary Clinton and Joseph Lieberman are backing the Family Entertainment Protection Act, which would restrict the sale of some games. Violent and sexually explicit games are currently self-regulated and age-rated."

In the story, the idea of gamers as 'politically apathetic' is entertained. Hmm.

On TerraNova, Edward Castronova writes about a "gamer bloc" that is forming in response to anti-game legislation. He has some good links for more information and questions how the bloc will affect 'real life' and/or game policies.

Communication Grads from the University of Calgary and SFU are descending upon Nelson for the Western Canadian Communication Graduate Conference (WCCGC) this weekend.

See the fun we had last year on flickr, not for the faint of heart.

Why Nelson? Because it's the closest most hospitable halfway point between the two universities. Tradition. Grad students in a big van. Fun.
